The platform
Why we build with OpenClaw.
OpenClaw is an open-source AI assistant and agent platform. It runs on hardware you choose and connects to the chat tools and model providers you configure. We use it because it lets us build agents our clients can inspect, host where they want and keep running without us.
What it is
- Open source, MIT license
- The source code is public on GitHub under the MIT license. You can read it, run it and modify it.
- Runs where you choose
- It runs on macOS, Linux and Windows, in containers, or on cloud servers, a single laptop or a shared team deployment.
- Meets people in their channels
- It connects to channels such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, email-adjacent tools and messaging apps, configured per deployment.
- Models are swappable
- Model providers and local models plug in through configuration, so the model can change without rebuilding the agent.
- Policy enforced in code
- Its documentation describes a trusted gateway, isolated execution, approvals, secrets handling and versioned state.
- Independent stewardship
- The project describes itself as stewarded by an independent nonprofit foundation, with no paid tier or hosted service of its own.
Where your information goes
Stays on the infrastructure you run
- The OpenClaw gateway and its configuration
- Agent state, memory and stored credentials
- Skills, prompts and workflow definitions
- Logs, unless you choose to export them
Sent to the external services you configure
- Prompts and context sent to the AI model provider for each request, unless a local model is used
- Messages exchanged through connected chat platforms
- Data read from or written to integrated business systems
Each provider has its own data-handling and retention terms. We review them with you during discovery.
What it costs
OpenClaw itself is free, open-source software. You pay us for design, implementation, training and support. Hosting, AI model usage and any other third-party services have their own separate costs, which we estimate with you before a pilot.
Our relationship to the project
We're an independent firm that builds with OpenClaw. We are not affiliated with, certified by or endorsed by the OpenClaw project or its foundation. For authoritative details, refer to the project's own website and documentation.
